December 2011

I've been working on the car a little this month while the class is on break.

I've started the interior. The carpet is in, back seat is in. Repaired the heater controls. Installed wiring for the rear speakers, amp and sub-woofer.

Front seat is in! It's starting to look like a real car.

The engine is back from the machine shop. It looks great, can't wait to start putting it together with the class in January.

Also rebuilt the transmission. I took some pictures of it when I had it all apart, but I had the camera settings wrong and the pics were all blurry. So all I have are pics of it back together. You'll just have to trust that all the time I spent in the garage Friday was rebuilding the transmission.

November 25, 2011

The car is resting (my wallet is resting too) for a while.

All 6 windows work now, even though the drivers door is still not on the car. This was quiet an accomplishment since none of the window parts are made anymore. I was fortunate enough the find what I needed in junk yards.

I'm waiting to put the carpet and interior together until the dust from the body work is finished are close to being finished.

The engine is still at the machine shop waiting its turn to be worked over by Nelson.
The front suspension is all together. The hardest thing to find for the front was the lower ball joints. I was able to find some on ebay from a seller that did not have them listed, but just happened to have a pair laying around!

November 18, 2011

Kyle and Steven started sanding the trunk lid today.
Jacob and IB started on the front brakes.

November 11, 2011

Today Kyle and Steven took a nap in the trunk!

Jacob and Paul “fixed” some holes in the floor.
Despite all this hard work the guys did get the rear brakes back together. And the front brakes and suspension are underway!

October 21, 2011

Last week and this week we worked on the brakes and suspension. Everything is worn out! All suspension parts and brake parts are shot! This car was a road hazard when it was last on the road, which was about 2 years ago.

Kyle is cleaning parts.

IB and Steven are beating the car into submission!

Paul is getting the rear brakes together.

October 6, 2011

Well, I said I wasn’t going to hot rod the engine… But… I guess I was wrong. So let the hot rodding begin! We got a Holley 4 barrel carburetor and an Edelbrock intake and a performance cam.

September 30, 2011 & October 1, 2011

We have the engine disassembled and ready too take to a machine shop. Don’t know which one???

Jacob and I went junk yard’n Saturday October 1, 2011. We visited Steve Ivester’s yard in Lawndale, NC. He’s been collecting Mopar cars and parts for 30 years. He knows his stuff. He took us to the “new” field, where there were only about 6 cars. We went to work on a ’66 Sport Fury and came out with a bumper, right fender and rear window regulator parts. So it was another sucsesful day of junk yard’n!

September 23, 2011

We started to disassemble the engine this week. Much thanks to my neighbor, Jim, for explaining the engine 4 strokes with his cut-away view engine. It was very helpful and the boys learned a lot.
I’ve learned that the engine we removed from the car is 1974 318, the donor engine I have is a 1968 318. We need a donor engine because the ’74 has a cracked block. So we will end up with an engine from ’74 and ’68 going into a ’66.

September 21, 2011

I had the afternoon off. So I reassemble the passenger door and got it back on the car! Yeah! This is exciting because now 3 out of 6 windows operate! And the passenger door can be opened from the inside or outside, another great improvement.

September 16, 2011

Second day of Shop Class. The guys worked really hard! We were able to get the engine pull out. It took a little pushing and shoving, but it came on out.

September 9, 2011. First day of class.

First day of Shop Class.

What a great bunch of students this year! WOW! A pleasure to see these guys come together, dive into the car and start the tear down. We are really close to getting the engine out. We should have it out of the car next week.

Kyle (student on the left in photo below) wins the prize for the dirtiest! Notice his shirt in photo below then above at the end of class.

Labor Day weekend, September 3, 2011

I worked on the windows and interior stuff some more. All the door panels are covered. Roof rail weather stripping is up on both sides of car. I keep finding stuff broken, bent and in need of attention. This old car needs a lot of TLC.

August 20, 2011

Finished headliner. One door panel is covered. The package shelf is painted and in place. One window is finished and operating okay. Carpet is ordered. Back seat should be back from the trim shop next week.

August 6, 2011

Today I installed the headliner, did some floor repair to prepare for carpet.

July 22, 2011

Today we removed the doors, front fenders. Pushed the car outside and gave it a wash, inside and outside. Probably the first in years. Took the back seat to a local trim shop for recovering.

Begin Fury Project. July 21, 2011

The car was purchased March 2011. It came from an individual in Candler that bought it at a police auction in Johnson City,TN.It had no title. After lots of phone calls and pleading with TN and NC DMV officials, I now have a title in hand!

I went junk yarding with my neighbor this past Saturday.I was looking for parts to make the front windows and rear windows roll up and down. And a right front fender. We went to 3 yards in SC, all south of Greenville and Spartanburg. It was a successful trip. I came back with 2 doors with fully functioning windows! lots of little pieces I needed. Salvageable door panels. The next yard I got a right front fender. It is kind of rough but will be ok with a lot of help from my neighbor, Jim. Thanks Jim! The third yard I picked up some small pieces for the rear window regulators.

So now I'm getting excited about the project. With fresh pieces in hand and I'm starting to see it happen. This week I have removed the right fender, front bumper. Next the left front fender, then the doors. Then a good cleaning and reassemble.
